Carpathian Mountains
The Carpathians are a high mountain range in Central and Eastern Europe. The 1300 km long ridge extends over 8 countries. In the form of an open curve, the mountains encompass parts of Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, the Ukraine, Hungary, Romania, and Serbia. Although the area is larger than the region of the Alps, the Carpathians are hardly developed for tourism. The High Tatras in Slovakia are an exception. But there is also a lot to discover in the rest of the Carpathian Mountains. For example, the mountains are home to two-thirds of the bear, wolf, and lynx populations in Europe. In Hungary you can find the Bükk mountain range, in whose idyllic forests you can go hiking. In the outer west of Ukraine, in Transcarpathia, you can experience the pure wilderness and nature. Romania holds the largest share of the Carpathian Mountains. Here everything revolves around Transylvania, castles, and untouched nature. But have a look and discover my adventures in the most underrated mountains in Europe on this page.
